I know that on my first playthrough this was a nightmare. At first I didn't realize that the Storm Beasts would attack, but I learned quickly enough. At the time I also thought you had to play online and that it was best to use the ephemeral eyes to get more HP when you died. I didn't have the cling ring because I had had no idea that you could hit those chains in 1-1. So, I was constantly getting invaded in 4-2. I didn't have the thief's ring either because I didn't drop down to that area where Ostrava was in 1-1. Basically, I really flubbed 1-1 a lot. I also didn't realize you could get your souls back after being killed. I was a mess.
Anyway, I would try to shoot arrows at the Storm Beasts but I really couldn't aim and I'd run out of arrows. And it seemed like every time I would get back to the same area after dying, I would get invaded and usually killed. It was either an invader or the Storm Beasts or a skeleton that would kill me. I would try to target a Skeleton and I'd target the Storm Beast instead and both of them would attack me. I died so many times I lost count and was sure because I had no more ephemeral eyes that I wouldn't be able to finish the game.
